Signature Breads Completes Extensive Energy Efficiency Upgrade

In August of 2018, Signature Breads, an independent, employee-owned commercial bakery, celebrated the completion of extensive energy efficiency upgrades at its the 280,000 square foot manufacturing facility.  RENEW provided the turnkey project development, funding and services contract for the project.

The LED lighting upgrade took place throughout the entire 280,000 square foot facility and included lighting controls where needed. In addition to the production facility, the project upgraded lighting for the reception areas, hallways, office space, server room, bathrooms and parking lot.

In addition to the LED lighting upgrade, the project installed a Building Management System (BMS) which can be accessed through the Signature Breads’ VPN, enabling the company to dynamically control various operations within the facility to maintain maximum efficiency. The BMS also provides the operation’s team with a snapshot of equipment operating status, as well as the ability to modify schedules and setpoints.

“Signature Breads is extremely happy with the efficiency upgrades that Fairbanks Energy designed and implemented,” said Tony Rodriguez, Managing Partner of Signature Breads. “Not only will these upgrades have a significant impact on our bottom line, they will also reduce our energy consumption while providing employees with a more comfortable working environment.”

Hard Manufacturing Chooses RENEW It Now NY for Energy Efficiency Project

RENEW Energy Partners, a company committed to addressing the challenges of climate change by accelerating the adoption of energy-efficiency and clean energy solutions, today announced HARD Manufacturing will be one of the first projects with RENEW It Now NY, an initiative focused on speeding the implementation of energy-efficiency retrofits and clean energy upgrades throughout New York State.  RENEW It Now NY won participation in NYSERDA’s Emerging Technologies and Accelerated Commercialization program which supports innovative projects and project approaches by providing participants with special incentives, additional measurement and verification of project performance, and showcasing of projects.

RENEW It Now NY in Action

Buffalo-based HARD Manufacturing Co., the leading manufacturer of hospital cribs and youth beds in the United States will be the one the first demonstration sites for RENEW It Now NY. The facility-wide upgrades include new LED lighting and lighting controls.  Along with these core retrofit services, the program provides upfront auditing and post-construction maintenance, optimization and monitoring services – all focused on delivering energy efficiency and peak ongoing performance.

“RENEW It Now NY made it very easy for us to say ‘yes’ to energy efficiency,” said Marjorie Bryen, President at Hard Manufacturing Co.  “As a building owner and an independent business operator, I am always looking for ways to save money and improve our employee experience, but when that requires a large capital investment, a retrofit project like a major upgrade to our lighting system can get put on the back burner.  Unitrac Energy Management proposed a lighting retrofit a couple years ago, but when they came back with the funding and implementation resources from RENEW It Now NY, coupled with rebate incentives from National Grid, we had a compelling business case to take action to reduce our energy use, saving us money and maintenance costs, while helping us do our part in battling climate change.”

With RENEW It Now NY, customers benefit from using the best new energy-efficient equipment over a multi-year period, lowering both their energy bills and carbon emissions.  And they do so without spending any up-front capital, only paying for program services out of the savings generated by their energy-efficiency improvements.

RENEW Energy Partners Launches RENEW It NOW NY

RENEW Energy Partners, a company committed to addressing the challenges of climate change by accelerating the adoption of energy-efficiency and clean energy solutions, today announced the official launch of RENEW It Now NY, an initiative focused on speeding the implementation of energy-efficiency retrofits and clean energy upgrades in Commercial, Industrial and Institutional buildings throughout New York State.  RENEW It Now NY won participation in NYSERDA’s Emerging Technologies and Accelerated Commercialization program which supports innovative projects and project approaches by providing participants with special incentives, additional measurement and verification of project performance, and showcasing of projects.

How the Program Works

RENEW Energy Partners has raised a multi-million-dollar capital pool from “impact investors” which it uses, in combination with its turnkey energy-efficiency services and industry partnerships, to fully fund and execute energy-efficiency projects for building owners that have other demands on their capital budget and would otherwise delay an energy efficiency upgrade or on-site clean energy project.

RENEW It Now NY works with energy services firms and design build firms in New York State to connect their customers to RENEW’s funding structuring and project ownership services.

The Program enables building owners to put energy-efficiency measures on the “fast track” to make buildings more efficient right now.  Program partners, design-build firms and energy solution providers work with their customers, qualifying operational needs and conducting building audits to identify energy-saving opportunities.  Working closely with these firms, RENEW models the energy baseline and potential energy savings opportunity for the customer.  Under RENEW’s energy-efficiency-as-a-service model, RENEW implements and maintains all the energy-efficient equipment and the owner pays out of the savings, keeping part of the savings for themselves.  RENEW also monitors project costs and emissions savings over time.

Customers sign an Energy Services Agreement (ESA) and/or, in instances where they opt for on-site energy generation, a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), under which they agree to pay RENEW an agreed upon rate – one that is lower than their current rate – for the energy saved and/or produced.  At the end of the agreement, which typically range from 6-10 years (and up to 20 years for CHP), the customer can take ownership of the equipment for a market value price and continue to reap the savings.

Stephen Pritchard, Principal, RENEW Energy Partners, said: “Waiting to do energy-efficiency projects costs building owners money and wastes precious time in the fight against climate change.  So the pivotal question is – why delay?  With RENEW It Now NY, executing energy-efficiency projects delivers building owners a higher cash flow than what they would get by waiting 18 months or longer and doing it on their own. Energy efficiency is one of the great weapons at our disposal to slow global warming.  It is imperative that we put it to use immediately, and at scale, to limit the most dramatic effects of global climate change.”

Participation in RENEW It Now NY enables building owners to upgrade their facility’s energy systems and reduce climate emissions without having to deploy their precious capital budgets.

RENEW: The Value for Building Owners

Here is a link to a great story from WBZ radio in Boston, announcing the close of our $40M capital pool and providing an excellent overview of the value for business owners in our RENEW it NOW solution!

RENEW Raises $40M to invest in Efficiency Technologies

RENEW announced it has successfully closed a $40 million capital pool, the largest in its history. Rollins Capital led the investment and was joined by Proficio Capital Partners and a group of RENEW’s original angel investors.

The new capital pool will help drive RENEW’s growing “energy-efficiency-as-a-service” business, which provides building owners and businesses with a single, turnkey solution for the design, construction, financing, and oversight of cost-saving, energy-efficiency retrofits. More than $11 million of the new funds are already earmarked for use on multiple construction-ready projects in New York and Massachusetts, including multi-family housing complexes, manufacturing facilities, and hospital systems. The projects encompass combined heat and power (CHP) implementations along with more traditional energy-efficiency services spanning lighting, HVAC, and building controls.

2016 RENEW YEAR IN REVIEW

RENEW’s portfolio of clients continued to grow in 2016.  RENEW provides energy-efficiency-as-a-service to buildings ranging from 1M square feet of industrial space to multifamily housing to community centers and schools.  Collectively, our services to buildings will deliver almost 1400 metric tons of carbon emissions reductions each year over the next ten years.  That is the equivalent of taking 296 cars off the road each year or eliminating the emissions from 148 homes yearly.  This is just the beginning, as more buildings sign up for our services each month.Bridgeport-International-Academy-photo

We are equally proud of what building owners have to say about working with RENEW-in a recent speech at Stamford 2030, the head of the Bridgeport International Academy said:

“I have to say, frankly speaking, RENEW was a god-send for us. Their model included no upfront investment, a full HVAC upgrade which in our case included the replacement of 21 heat pumps, new LED lighting, reduction of carbon emissions, and the installation of controls which provided us with a dashboard to control the school’s heating and cooling from any desktop computer.”

We look forward to building our portfolio in 2017. If you are interested in learning more, please contact Charlie Lord at Lord@renewep.com.
